Spread the Word’s campaign to make Lewisham the UK’s first Borough of Literature was launched at the 2024 Deptford Literature Festival.
We’re having conversations with different communities across Lewisham to find out what is already happening and gathering ideas to shape what a Borough of Literature might look like. These include with: local writers, activists and artists and representatives from businesses, community groups and education, youth, health, creative and green spaces.
We’re now looking for six people who live or work in Lewisham and are passionate about the Borough, its residents and the power of stories to make a difference to communities, to join the campaign’s Advisory Group
About the Advisory Group
Chaired by Lewisham resident and Founder of Knights of and Round Table Books, Aimée Felone, the Advisory Group will:
- Help inform the programme
- Support the development of a funding bid
- Champion the campaign
We’re particularly interested in hearing from people who we’ve not had the opportunity to work with before. We welcome applications from people who are representative of Lewisham’s diverse communities and who can bring either lived experience and/ or professional experience to the Advisory Group.
When will the Advisory Group meet?
The Advisory Group will meet four times between November 2024 – May 2025 and also be part of a community consultation at the 2025 Deptford Literature Festival. The meetings will be held at The Albany in the evening. Advisory Group members will be paid £100 each per meeting. Reasonable adjustments will be made.
The Advisory Group dates are: Tuesday 26 November, Tuesday 14 January, Saturday 29 March (Deptford Literature Festival), Tuesday 8 April and Tuesday 6 May.
