Running from Thursday 27 March to Sunday 30 March 2025 in spaces across Deptford, Deptford Literature Festival celebrates the local community.
Expect performances, in conversation events, readings, writing workshops and more. Artists taking part include Caleb Azumah Nelson, Emma Warren, Irenosen Okojie, Nathan Bryon, and Santanu Bhattacharya, amongst many others. There’s something for everyone: a children’s and young people programme; talks and workshops for aspiring writers and curious readers; walking tours; zine and book making, and so much more.
Access is really important to us. The winners of the 2025 Disabled Poets Prize will be announced during the festival. New work by d/Deaf and Disabled writers commissioned for Spread the Word’s 30th Anniversary will be published and available for free in the Festival Anthology. The Festival At Home commissioned activities will enable people to join in from home. All events Friday-Sunday will offer BSL interpretation and all online festival events will be captioned. Many of our headline events will be recorded and available online to stream after the festival to allow people to participate from wherever they are. 45 of 48 festival events are free, and free tickets for the paid-for headline event on Friday 28 March will be available for Lewisham residents on low incomes. Find out how to claim your free ticket on the bursaries page, linked below.
Spread the Word is a charity. We rely on funding and donations to deliver our work creating opportunities for writers who are marginalised, and helping everyone to access literature in our home borough of Lewisham. Our vision is a culture in which London’s diverse writers are reflected and celebrated.
45 of 48 festival events are free of charge: it is important to us that everyone can join in. But if you can afford to support Spread the Word and secure the future of Deptford Literature Festival, please consider making a donation. Every little helps.
