Advice Surgeries for London writers and non-NPO organisations applying for ACE’s COVID-19 Emergency Funding

Arts Council England (ACE) has set up two funds to support individual creative practitioners and organisations outside of the National Portfolio. There are two rounds for applications, the first one opening on 9 April and closing on 16 April and the second round opening on 16 April and closing on 27 April. Spread the Word is offering London based writers and organisations outside of the National Portfolio FREE feedback sessions on your draft application. The sessions will be run by Ruth Harrison and Eva Lewin. 

Please read the ACE guidance before you book a session to make sure that you are eligible (see links at the end of this page). There will be high demand for these funds.  

You will need to apply via ACE’s website Grantium. If you are not already registered on Grantium, we recommend that you do so now and by April 13 at the latest if you are applying for Round 1. About the advice sessions: 

Our feedback sessions for writers or organisations applying for Round 1 will take place on Tuesday 14 April during the day18 sessions are available in total, with each session lasting 15 minutes. They are offered on a first come first served basis.  

The sessions are set up to be done by telephone in the first instanceWe will have a BSL interpreter available and can arrange the feedback to be done via Zoom. Please let us know when you book if you need to receive your feedback another way – we want to make sure the sessions are as accessible as possible.  

How to book a feedback session if you are an individual creative practitioner or an organisation outside of the National Portfolio: 

You must either be a London-based writer of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction or a producer or project developer in the live literature sector. We’re very sorry but we cannot advise screenwriters, playwrights or documentary makers.  

Or you must be a London-based organisation outside of the National Portfolio – for example, we can advise independent presses, literature festivals.

Once you have booked your session, you will need to email the following information to [email protected] by 5pm on Monday 13 April: 

  • Your phone number where you can be reached;
  • Draft application as a Word document;
  • Any access requirements you many have;
  • Any particular questions/ concerns about your application that you would like to discuss. 

We will not be able to provide any further emails or conversations outside of your session slot.
