Join this salon with pioneering Visual Vernacular poet Zoë McWhinney to discover the world of signed poetry. Zoë will share a beginner’s guide to what Visual Vernacular and BSL poetry are, what they look like and how they rhyme.

As always there are five sharing spot slots available at the salon. If you’d like to share your work, please complete the following form by 11am on Friday 9 May 2025https://forms.gle/GzMAR5moDxAaQvfb9

You’ll be asked to provide your contact details, a short bio, and the reading you will be doing which should be no longer than 5 minutes. This is so we can send the work to our BSL interpreters in advance of the session. You can submit these in written English, video or audio file format.

About Zoë McWhinney

Zoë McWhinney is a pioneering poet and workshop facilitator, capivating audiences at venues like The Roundhouse and the United Nations. As a deaf poet published in British Sign Language, she served as the British Deaf Association’s Silver Poet Laureate for 2023-24. Known as Rapunzel online, she performs Visual Vernacular and leads inclusive workshops that inspire creativity and self-expression relating to the visual world.
