In this workshop, Cathy Reay will explore her journey to getting a book deal with Penguin Randomhouse, after experiencing several false starts and dead ends along the way. She will discuss ableism in the publishing industry, what to look out for, and offer tips on securing a contract for your first book.

You’ll be asked to provide your contact details, a short bio and the piece you would like to read. The reading should last no longer than 5 minutes. We ask you to share the reading in advance so that we can send the work to our BSL interpreters, so they can prepare for the event. You can submit your reading in written English, video or audio file format.
About Cathy Reay
Cathy is a disabled journalist and author covering disability politics and pop culture. She has written for The Guardian, The Independent, i and several others. She is a mum of two disabled kids and champions experience-led stories from her community. She has just finished writing her first book, which will be published by Penguin Randomhouse in March 2025.
