A guided walk from New Cross to St Johns, curated by writer and tour guide, David Turnbull, exploring the borough’s connections to the literature of the fantastical and their influences on popular culture. This walk takes you on a voyage through time and relative dimensions, visiting ghost stories real and imagined, dystopias and alternate histories, children’s fantasies and classic monsters, all with Lewisham connections. Along the way you will meet treasure seekers, star gazers, Hobbits, giant gorillas, and the bride of Frankenstein. You’ll hear about the origins of a cult graphic novel and some World War II poetry. You’ll meet a prolific writer of ghost stories, the children’s laureate, the man who championed a classic of fantasy literature, a pioneer of British silent cinema, and some Deptford Mice.
This walk is about 3 miles, and will finish at St Johns station, where regular trains will take you back to your starting point, New Cross station.
