Plants as Resistance with Alexandra Yellop + Idman Abdurahaman from Earth Tenders

This workshop invites participants to explore connecting to the land and earth practice from a non-western and anti-colonial lens.

The title Deptford Literature Festival in chunky black lettering outlined in bright yellow, sits on a background in blue and pale blue. It’s an illustration that includes an image of a hand with a pen, a closed fist, and the words ‘whose stories are told?’, ‘resistance’, ‘community’, and ‘history’.

Free to attend. BOOK VIA EVENTBRITE HERE

The session offers an opportunity to engage with environmentalism and earth practices from an indigenous, afro-centric, non-western and anti-colonial lens. With a focus on histories of the Caribbean and Africa, we will explore texts by authors such as Malidoma Some, Bell Hooks, Melanie Harris, Kukuwa Abba, Judith Carney and Robin Wall Kimmerer as well as archive materials to explore our relationships with the land whilst uplifting African and Indigenous botanical knowledge and contributions.
