Željka Marošević joined Jonathan Cape as Editorial Director in 2021 and acquires across fiction and non-fiction. Her authors include Amy Key, Ore Agbaje-Williams, Jacqueline Crooks, Brandon Taylor and Momtaza Mehri. Prior to this she was Publisher at Daunt Books where she published authors such as Mary Gaitskill, Amina Cain and Hernan Diaz, and authors in translation such as Elisa Shua-Dusapin, winner of the National Book Award for Translated Literature. During her time as Publisher, she led the successful revival of works by M.F.K. Fisher and Natalia Ginzburg, and launched Daunt Books Originals, an imprint for new writing, which in 2020 published the Booker Prize-shortlisted Real Life by Brandon Taylor. Between 2017-2019 she was co-editor of The White Review, overseeing a relaunch of the magazine, and discovering and editing many new writers. Between 2013 and 2016 she was Managing Director of Melville House UK, where she published Maggie Nelson’s The Argonauts. In 2017 she was shortlisted for the Kim Scott Walwyn Prize (for outstanding women in publishing) and won a LBF Trailblazer Award.

I’ve been working in editorial for nearly eight years, across fiction and non-fiction, in the 6+ team at Penguin Random House Children’s. Currently I work on all sorts, and across all sorts of ages. From legacy authors such as Roald Dahl, to brands including Doctor Who. I also look to commission exciting new voices, and have recently signed up and published debut authors including Abigail Balfe and Sarah Daniels. My work on non-fiction involves new ideas and established names, including Bill Bryson and Yuval Noah Harari.
